WORLD DAY TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION AND DROUGHT – 17 June 2013
The focus of International Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is the lack of water on our planet. It is interesting to note that only 2.5% of the water on our planet is fresh, and less than one percent of it is available for use.
The goal of observing International Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is to raise awareness of the risks brought by desiccation of the soil and the lack of water in arid areas. This year’s slogan is “Don’t let our future dry up” and it should remind us to use the most precious resource on the planet sparingly.
